So A&E premiered the 2016 version of the classic miniseries ‘Roots’ originally written by Alex Haley which first debuted around 1977 I think. There has been much controversy about this, as many believe it was a waste of time and effort, even going as far as to say ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ as the first ‘Roots’ was iconic and ground breaking in its frank portrayal of how blacks were bought, broken in, brutalised, branded, battered, bred, bartered and to an extent, brainwashed.
